When we first met Koji Kawakami, 17th generation President of Yoshinogawa, at his favorite restaurant late one evening, he poured sake from a tokkuri (sake pitcher) to relax his guests. The sake was deep and tasty with crisp fennel and slightly sweet herbal notes. Koji-san saw our delight and said that this is his personal favorite sake. Five or so bottles later we learned it was Gokujo Ginjo, the elixer we now offer in the U.S.
Profile: Crisp fennel aroma infuses your senses as a flight of fresh hebs dances across your tongue. The full-bodied, tongue-wrapping smootheness carries through each sip and lingers.
Enjoyment: Sip with classic Japanese dishes from Toro and Uni to soba or Udon. But if you pair it with just one thing, make it a close friend.
